Title: Beginning Joomla! Recommended for: Joomla! Beginners with a technical background. This is the hands-on approach! If you are an enthusiast and want to install Joomla! right away, this is the book for you! You can try figuring things out by yourself... but having this book by your side will save you heaps of time! Anyway, the first chapter is short & sweet, just the basics about how Joomla! works, in case this is your first CMS. Then that's it! Jump in and start with a basic installation of Joomla!, guaranteed to take only 20 minutes, if all goes well that is! If you are trying out an obscure distribution of Linux and you have never (or it has been ages) since you fiddled with the php.ini file, it might take a little longer... (yes, guilty as charged!) Of course you can always do the quick install in Windows... But hey! Isn't that like... cheating? LOL! I found chapter 4 "Adding Content" particularly useful, specially the tips about doing a mind map to help you organise (and visualise) the "future content" of your site. For anybody that has developed or maintained a site with more than "a few pages" this is sound advice. For those who have so far only developed or maintained a site with a "a few pages" this is an excellent habit to pick up! Chapter 9 about "Site Statistics" is a sound introduction to Web Analytics! For those who haven't done that in a while or have never done it, this will get you started on the right foot! Chapter 11 about the extension VirtueMart (very popular & free for e-commerce) and Chapter 12 about SEO for Joomla! will leave you wanting more... Chapter 10, "Photo Gallery" might be considered a bit weak, specially because those extensions have tons of options to configure, but at least you'll know where to start. The same can be said about Chapter 13: "Creating extensions", very basic, but it's a start. You'll need to get yourself another book with more examples or start doing reverse engineering, the code is there anyway, so... Complaints: So when is the Joomla! for intermediate/advanced programmers coming out Dan?
